Put Some Respect on our “Ghetto”
Put some respect on our "Ghetto"
You've heard em say "ghetto is nothing but creativity that hasn't been stolen yet," but I'd like to rebuttal this and provide my argument for why I disagree. It has in fact already been stolen. The same people who would've referred to these certain aesthetics as "run-downs" are now the same ones praising them artistically. What was once considered not worthy of even being called art is now being widely appropriated in art. The long acrylics pimped out with the most lavish gems and designs, to bold lipstick/ hair colors, and so much more are now your latest trends on the white runway. Things that got mocked and wouldn't have dare be touched by some of you unless seen on a high end model.
I'm always amused seeing companies boast and capitalize off of our culture by throwing the label "high fashion" on it. Piggy backing off a culture they once made fun of ... It was once considered "unthinkable" to do, but as soon as some illogical eyes spot it on the runway it's "fashion???????" Hunny it's always been fashion, but i'm glad you're atleast hip now. It's time to give credit to the ones who have always embodied every attitude in Lil Kim's The Jump Off (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37bRlLzE43E), so whoever you are, I am here to say we see you fashionable girl!! We see you being the trendsetter instead of following the trend, we've been watching you be the taste-maker while other cultures are biting to get a piece. We see you upholding who you truly are and we applaud you for always maintaining a style that's true to you.
